Allie Szekely wins Women’s 400m IM gold – Speedo Junior National Championships
Allie Szekely of Central Bucks Swim Team won gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on day two of the 2012 Speedo Junior National Championships at Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 14.
The 14-year-old Szekely, who qualified into the playoff as third best finisher, elevated her pace in the final round and ensured her place on top of the victory stand for gold medal.
Her incredible pace placed her considerably ahead of her opponents as she showed her urgency towards the finishing blockade for gold medal with a timing of 4 minutes and 46.73 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by fastest qualifying swimmer, Allison Brown of Pleasanton Seahawks, who remained nearly three seconds apart and stepped on the medal rostrum for silver medal by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 49.06 seconds.
Brown was chased by Margaret D’Innocenzo of Crimson Aquatics, who entered the playoff as second best swimmer but reached the podium as third position holder by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 50.16 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Katelyn Miller of Firestone Akron, who stayed nearly full body length apart and settled on the finishing end with an effort of 4 minutes and 51.09 seconds.
Miller was trailed by Katherine Drabot of Ozaukee Aquatics, who remained 0.87 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end as fifth fastest swimmer with a timing of 4 minutes and 51.96 seconds.
Drabot was chased by Kimberly Williams of Bellevue Club Swim Team, who occupied sixth fastest spot of the event by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 52.10 seconds.
Seventh position of the race was obtained by Taylor Katz of Sarasota YMCA Sharks, who stayed 2.33 seconds slower and posted an effort of 4 minutes and 54.43 seconds.
Katz was chased by Elizabeth Zeiger of Bluefish Swim Club, who remained 0.04 seconds slower and tapped the wall with an effort of 4 minutes and 54.47 seconds.
Szekely received a huge round of applause from the audience and received her medal at the victory ceremony of the event.
