Alligator Challenge Player Ratings: Goose Creek-Faraway 10 – Jan Pamela 9
A talented, but incoherent Jan Pamela fell to a 10-9 defeat before Goose Creek-Faraway. Goose Creek fought hard to win the finals of the Alligator Challenge Cup being played at the International Polo Club.
It was a glorious and free flowing game from Martin Zegers and Goose Creek would be pleased that they managed to bag the title despite losing some games in the round matches. While on the other hand, Steve Dalton’s Jan Pamela will feel down-hearted by the
game’s outcome, but they should take positive from their well organised show. The victory dashed away the desires of Jan Pamela that wanted to win another event at the International Polo Club.
Nevertheless here are the player ratings of all the performers in the contest and some light on the MVP of the Alligator Challenge.
Goose Creek-Faraway
Martin Zegers: 8.5/10
Undoubtedly, it was an enormous performance from Zegers and he scored six goals in the six chukkas. Furthermore, he controlled the attack well and made loads of lengthy rides throughout the field to put Jan Pamela under pressure. He did not put any foot
wrong in the game and was the architect of his team's victory. He proved on the field that why he is considered one of the best polo pros in the country. He demonstrated great ball possession and brought his team-mates into the play.
Julian Daniels: 7.0/10
It was another error-free performance from Daniels who lit the lamp four times and played pivotal role in the win. He was quite confident and assured and did well to convert penalty-shots. The notable moment of his game was when he nailed a goal through
an artistry long shot, which could be called a masterpiece. Daniels not only scored himself, but also created chances for the front-runners.
Maureen Brennan: 6.0/10
He scored once in the game, but was good at the defence. Apart from missing the ball on few occasions, it was an unquestionable performance from Brennan. He failed to display impressive ball possession and was found guilty of hitting a penalty-shot wide,
which could have changed the face of the score-board.
Santiago Cernadas: 4.0/10
It was a disappointing performance from Cernadas who could not make an impact in the game neither on the defence nor the offence.
Jan Pamela
Steve Dalton: 7.0/10
The Argentinean striker sprung into life in the second half and seemed threatening throughout the game. He led the attack at times, but could score only four points in the game. He was outstanding on ridings and movements on the horseback. He also read the
game brilliantly, but could not bring his team-mates into the game.
Wayne Garrison: 6.0/10
He was full of vigour and showed his hard-work throughout the six chukkas. Though he was sloppy in ball possession at times, he did a reasonable job and scored two goals besides creating scoring opportunities for the front-striker.
Nick Manifold: 6.0/10
Manifold though scored two goals, but made numerous saves on the field and worked for the victory until the last moments of the regulation time period. He left his position open at times and conceded goals. Except that factor it was reasonable performance.
Joe Chai: 4.0/10
It seemed that only three players contested the match against Goose Creek as he failed to leave a little impact in the game.
