Allison R Schmitt of North Baltimore and Michael P Klueh of Fast Swim Team-C continued to serve notice of their talent by occupying gold medals of Women’s 800m freestyle and Men’s 1500m freestyle respectively, on closing day of the Austin Grand Prix at Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center on Sunday, January 15.
Austin is the second stage of 2011-12 USA Swimming Grand Prix Series, which is a seven-step battle.
The 21-year-old Schmitt, who previously won Women’s 200m freestyle title, remained dominant in the 800m discipline. With her relentless efforts, she clocked a top fastest time of 8 minutes and 31.94 seconds for gold medal. Her effort was nearly seventeen seconds slower than the world record of 8 minutes and 14.10 seconds, owned by Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain from 2008.
The gold medallist was trailed by Chloe E Sutton of Mission Viejo Nadadores Swim Team, who remained nearly six seconds behind and touched the wall with a timing of 8 minutes and 36.93 seconds for silver medal.
With her fantastic effort, she stayed 0.36 seconds faster from her team-mate, Ashley G Twichell, who earned bronze medal of the event by posting a time of 8 minutes and 37.29 seconds.
Shortly after the 800m event, the crowd witnessed a remarkable effort of 24-year-old Klueh in Men’s 1500m discipline. Klueh remained significantly ahead of his competitors and ended his swim in a time of 15 minutes and 25.33 seconds for gold medal.
He was followed by Peter W Vanderkaay of OLY-MI, who secured second position of the event by producing an effort of 15 minutes and 39.43 seconds.  The 27-year-old Vanderkaay was in a lead of nearly three seconds over Thomas Allen of BSS, who acquired the podium for bronze medal by reporting a time of 15 minutes and 42.33 seconds.
The session adjourned after the completion of all scheduled events in Men’s and Women’s category whereas the spectators acknowledged laudable efforts of all position holders in their exclusive events. In addition, the podium finishers were called upon the victory stand for their praiseworthy efforts after the conclusion of championship.
