Allison Schmitt secures Women’s 400m freestyle gold: Day three – 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim
Allison Schmitt of North Baltimore secured gold medal of the Women’s 400m freestyle on day three of the 2012 NC Charlotte UltraSwim at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center in Charlotte on Saturday, May 12.
The 21-year-old Schmitt, who qualified into the playoff as second fastest swimmer, exceeded expectations of her fans by proving her audacity for gold medal of the discipline.
With her immaculate efforts, she paved her way towards the finishing wall for gold medal by posting a time of 4 minutes and 05.40 seconds.
She enjoyed an advantage of 0.39 seconds over Kathleen Ledecky of Curl Burke Swim, who followed Schmitt on the victory stand for silver medal by submitting a time of 4 minutes and 05.79 seconds.
Similarly, Chloe Sutton of Mission Viejo-CA remained almost a body length behind her former finisher and settled on the victory stand for bronze medal with the timing of 4 minutes and 07.53 seconds.
Sutton was trailed by Kathryn Hoff of Una T2-FL, who secured fourth position of the discipline by reporting a time of 4 minutes and 13.15 seconds.
Later, the crowd witnessed scintillating form of Trojan Swim Club’s Oussama Mellouli in the Men’s 400m freestyle.
The 28-year-old Mellouli showered his expertise in the mediocre distance freestyle event and posted a time of 3 minutes and 50.17 seconds for the title of the event.
The champion was trailed by Charlie Houchin of Unattached-NC, who remained 0.68 seconds slower and produced an effort of 3 minutes and 50.85 seconds.
The podium was completed by Connor Jaeger of Club Wolverine-M, who secured bronze medal of the discipline by reporting a time of 3 minutes and 50.87 seconds for bronze medal.
Subsequently, Jaeger’s team-member, Matthew Patton stayed just two strokes behind and completed his race in fourth best place with the timing of 3 minutes and 51.22 seconds.
Mellouli was very happy with his gold finish in the 400m event and stressed that he will try his level best to excel in the same discipline at the 2012 London Olympic Games. Furthermore, the session concluded after the completion of all listed events.
