Allister de Kock now fully committed to golf, makes the cut at Telkom PGA Championship
Allister de Kock hardly made the cut at Telkom PGA Championship after the completion of the second round on Friday.
Allister is reported to have left his job lately to become a leading professional golfer and make his golf career even brighter.
According to him, the job was the biggest hurdle between him and his golf career, so he decided to quit it.
“I quit my job to do this – it’s my dream. I was a setter at an engineering company in Uitenhage, but I was never happy to go to work. I use to wake up every morning and go to a place I didn’t want to, and that’s why I quit my job. Now I’m here, where I
belong,” said the 28-year-old rookie.
The South African professional golf player scored 73, 70 and 73 in the three rounds, respectively, and stood tied on the 68th position.
He was extremely excited to be at the golf course. He was looking forward to making his debut cut at the tournament, which he successfully achieved at the end of second round.
“If I make the cut here it will be my first cut made, and it’s in my first tournament. I am over the moon! I don’t know what else to say,” he added.
His scores are not so impressive but he achieved his goal of making the cut. After the completion of the third round, his statistics on the leaderboard were 1-over par and 217 strokes in total.
The Telkom PGA Championship at Country Club Johannesburg is being staged by the Sunshine Tour, one of the best after the leading organising institutions like the PGA and the European Tour.
It is not that easy to compete in South Africa, as golf is flourishing across the world rapidly.
Hence, Allister also realised the importance and is glad to be on the field with the top leading golfers of the region.
“Normally I would watch these guys on TV, but today I’m playing with them. I’m really happy just to be in the field.” Allister said.
There are seven players at the same position and the competition is getting tougher. Allister has to show some extra efforts on the South African golf course to bag surprising records.
