Assuming that there are two partitions on a drive, C and D. C is partition 1. D is partition 2.

Will there be a difference in speed between the two operating systems determined by their relative Partition placement?

Please answer if you know a bit about disk allocation theory. Please do not respond if you dont. thankyou.

  1. No, there is no difference in speed.  Once you boot into one partition, your computer will act as though you only have one hard drive and one partition.  For example, say you have a 200 gb hard drive and allocate 120 to XP and 80 to Mac OS X.  When you boot into XP, your computer will act like you have a 120 gb hard drive and will not show you the rest of your partitions unless you reformat or go into the advanced properties of the hard drive.  When you boot into the Mac OS X, the same thing will happen, only your computer will recognize 80 gb.  There will be no difference in speed between the partitions.

  2. no, there are haven't difference, but the common drive for Operating System is C:\,

and I recommended you to make your OS drive more space, more space you have, faster speed you get...
