The Werder Bremen sporting director has offered his backing for Thomas Schaaf, who has been under fire after a poor start to the season
The River Islanders are currently sitting in 12th place with seven points from the seven games played and have already lost four times during the course of the campaign. The side has won only two games and is just two
points above the relegation zone.
Thomas Schaaf has faced criticism after the team’s poor start to the campaign and there has been talk that the manager should be shown the door for the team’s unimpressive displays.
Many had expected the former Bundesliga winners to do well this season as they had made some great signings in the summer transfer window. The club brought in the likes of Nils Petersen, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-De-Bruyne-c20717 and Theodor
Gebre Selassie, but have failed to live up to the expectations of the fans.
Allofs claimed that the manager is fully determined to bring the team back on track and insisted that he has the club’s full support. The chief brushed aside any rumours of a possible exit for the manager and is confident that
the team will return to winning ways.
“When I see the dedication he has to his http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 and how much attention he pays to details, and how painstakingly he works, then that always furthers my conviction in him. Thomas remains a long way ahead of his colleagues in this regard,”
he was quoted as saying in an interview.
However, the sporting director is aiming for a place in Europe at the end of the season and wants the team to step up in the remaining games of the campaign.
“In the mid-term, I want us to be playing in Europe again and if that happens after this season, then that would be even better. I cannot accept talk of a crisis just after a bad start. The coming weeks will show what the team's
real potential is,” he concluded.
Werder Bremen will next take on Borussia Monchengladbach on Saturday, October 20, at the Weserstadion in the league.
