Question:

Alltime homerun leaders by position

When Mike Piazza retired he had a little over 400 Hr (416 i think) but he hit 396 as a catcher.

Can someone tell me (or give me the link) to all time home runs at each position?

example...I'm sure that Bonds must have hit a few homeruns while DHing in interleague games, as a pinch hitter, or possiblly while playing another OF position, so how many did he have as just a leftfielder...

and so on with the other positions

(DH and pitcher too please)

thank you

  1. C - Mike Piazza 396

    1B - Mark McGwire 566

    2B - Jeff Kent 386+

    SS - Cal Ripken 345

    3B - Mike Schmidt 509

    OF - Barry Bonds 748

    P - Wes Ferrell 37

    DH - Frank Thomas 261+

    PH - Cliff Johnson 20

The outfielders aren't broken down by positon but I assume Bonds would have the most in LF, Mays in CF, and Ruth in RF.

edit: Retrosheet shows Bonds with 725 as a LF, and Mays with 616 as a CF (with 1951 and 1952 unaccounted for).
