Allyn Woodward, Eliana Schroder surge into quarter-final of Canadian Masters Badminton Championships
Mixed Doubles experts Allyn Woodward and Eliana Schroder secured their berth in quarter-finals of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships by stamping Allan Fraser-Joanne Sullivan in second round on May 8, 2012.
Allyn Woodward and Eliana Schroder, who belong to USA and Peru respectively, won this pre quarter-final tussle with 2-1 match score.
They outclassed their higher ranked rivals with concluding figures of 7-21, 21-12 and 21-15 by taking 43 minutes on the court.
The second seed duo of event, Allan Fraser-Joanne Sullivan took off properly by winning first set but they crashed in final two games.
In the opening game, they launched a brisk attack and blew away their challengers in just few minutes. They wrapped first segment of this splendid show with a notable lead of 13 points in final total.
The Canadians completely dominated first half of the set and established an unassailable lead before the interval. They accelerated their speed in later part of the game and left the opposing team far behind with significant margin of 21-7.
Next game brought life back into match as Allyn Woodward and Eliana Schroder successfully avoided a straight-set defeat.
The scratch pair stood full to their stature and overshadowed the natives who were in high spirits after first set win.
They were bit cautious in start as they were looking to come out of psychological pressure but soon they geared up and made the difference by increasing intensity of their attack. They reached at comfortable position of 11 points before one-minute interval.
The pressure was mounting after the interval also and the local couple Allan Fraser-Joanne Sullivan could not lift this burden as they surrendered after reading final figure of 12-21.
Allyn Woodward and Eliana Schroder, who were underdogs earlier in this event, continued with their top form in the decider as well. They showed strong character not only against the higher ranked challengers but also against the local crowd.
They enjoyed complete dominance throughout the final set and sealed a 2-1 victory with scoreboard flashing decisive total 21-15 in their favour.
Now Woodward-Eliana will test their skills against the twosome of Anand Walia and Lucia Gloria in quarter-final round of the event.
