Almost 14 weeks and still no appetite?

I will be 14 weeks on Monday....I had very bad morning sickness in the beginning but it has since calmed down (thank goodness!) I still feel really crappy in the mornings, esp at work but whats worrying me is that I still have almost no appetite! I never want to eat anything. Nothing really tastes that good to me anymore! I used to LOVE fast food but now it makes me feel sick! I know I need to eat for the baby but its just hard to force feed yourself when you don't really feel well and aren't really hungry!

For instance...this morning I had a couple bites of watermelon (4 small pieces max), then about 1.5 hours later I had maybe 4 bites of a banana and then an hour after that I had 1 peanut butter cracker. I'm full! I don't want anything else and I know I wont for a good couple hours! Anybody else go through this?? What did they do?? Is it going to hurt my baby??

  1. Yep. Sounds like me to a T. With my 2nd pregnancy I had morning sickness all the way through. I never wanted to eat. Didn't feel hungry at all. I had to force myself to eat and even then most of the time it didn't stay down. My doctor told me it was ok though. As long as I was taking my pregnancy vitamins and not fainting and could still function in everyday life. Everything would be ok. I lost 8kg before before I put any weight on. When my daughter was born 1 week over due I had only put on 2kg. And she weighed 8lbs 8oz so it definitely didn't effect her, lol. Good luck I hope your appetite returns soon.

  2. you are still very early in pregnancy and morning sickness is lingering around. Its completely normal. my last pregnancy was very similar to this and i lost more weight then i gained for the whole pregnancy.

the begining i never ate, couldnt eat, but i got an appetite back around 20 or so weeks. Take your vitamins, and make try a slimquick nurtitional supplement meal. they are good for you and baby.

  3. I went through that for a LONG time...at least it seemed like forever to me!  I probably ate less in my entire first trimester than any other time in my pregnancy.  Some days, I wouldn't eat anything really but maybe one small meal.  My husband would even go through the trouble to make a gourmet breakfast.  I would take one bite and then it was over!  STRAIGHT to the bathroom, lol!  It won't hurt your baby.  I know you're concerned, but it's just a natural state of pregnancy for some women.  It'll soon be over, I'm sure, but just hang in there.  Try some yogurt!  That's all I could stomach sometimes and usually it led to me eating a little bit more.  Congrats and good luck with everything!

  4. Yes, if you do not make yourself eat, it WILL hurt your baby!  I would not recommend fast food, but rather eating small meals/snacks every 1 1/2 - 2 1/2 hours until you can get onto a regular eating schedule.

As far as what to eat, your baby will not grow on Watermelon (almost NO calories) or bananas alone!

You should eat a healthy protien (cheese, turkey, chicken, peanut butter) combined with a fruit/veggie and a carb.  The peanut butter crackers are a great start, but you need to eat at least 3 crackers every 2 +/- hours to give your baby what it needs to grow.

Have you gained any weight?  Are you worried about gaining weight?  You may be hypoglycemic in which case the body can actually make you think you are not hungry, when your blood sugar is too low.

Try eating on a consistent schedule and see if this improves.  If you were having trouble keeping food down, your stomach may just not want to eat, but you have to be smarter! :)

When I was pregnant, I went through what you are going through and know it did get better.  I was starving by the end, but I made myself eat!  I had a gorgeous, smart 8 lb baby.  My doctor gave me a medication called Phenergan, but that made me sleepy, so I ended up on something called Zofran.  It was my miracle!

Above all else, if it doesn't get better, be SURE you talk to your doctor or midwife!  They can offer suggestions, reassurance and medical checks to be sure all id A-OK!

  5. I did not have an appetite either but it came. Just keep trying to eat like your doing and drink lots of water. Pretty soon you will be starving all the time lol

  6. First of all you're perfectly fine , pregnancy is different with every women so please don't stress out because it's not good for the health of baby. For the time being eat (healthy) whatever you can even if it's the smallest bite ...just because you don't have a appetite doesn't necessary mean the baby isn't hungry ..at the stage that you're in your baby is doing a lot of full time work to become a baby so remember it's not just about your appetite anymore ... Good Luck :)

  7. I had horrible morning sickness and no appetite, around 16 weeks the doc gave me a prescription and that helped (I loved food and was always hungry). But after the meds ran out (and doc wouldn't give me more) I lost my appetite and the morning sickness came back. Now I am 22 weeks and I still don't have a good appetite, but it's starting to come around (i still cannot sit down and eat a whole plate of food though).

My doctors advice is just to drink plenty of fluids and eat when I'm hungry. Even though I haven't gained nearly as much weight as my doctor would like my last ultra sound showed a very healthy baby boy and the doc is not worried.

As a caution though I must warn you that the lack of food/appetite is really taking a toll on my body. I have fainted and I am just not myself (dizzy, tired, and weak), the baby seems to get everything I put into my body. Drinking ensure and other meal supplement drinks help, but make sure you keep eating with them.

  8. This is normal.

I was so sick in the first 3 months! I had no appetite whatsoever.

My OBGYN wrote me a prescription for a pill that is for morning sickness. I forget what it was called, but it had a little picture of a mother and baby on it. You could ask your doctor for that.

I hardly ate anything during the first 3 months, cause of morning sickness. My son ended weighing 8 pounds, 8 and a half ounces!

    I wouldn't worry...this is normal.

  9. At least you feel full. I am hungry, but nothing tastes good to me (and if I eat it I get sick). And so I too am eating very little, but so far everything is suppose to be normal.
