I watched some clips on You-Tube and its heartbreaking that people still make ignorant & racial comments about the situation. I'm white... I was a victim of this... I evacuated to Mississippi at the last minute... I was in the middle of this storm with my 1 1/2 yr. old daughter... I went a wk w/o water... a month w/o electricity... I went home to misery... I'm still not fully recovered now. And my story is one of the lucky one. No human being should have to go through that! I can't understand why our government didn't help us... till it was too late. What are your feelings toward the whole thing?

  1. "'Those people deserved what they got for being stupid and staying there, plus they're just a bunch of welfare cheats anyway, and its not George Bush's fault, the buck always stops at a much lower level"

  2. Yes, it was heartbraking to watch this desperate situation and to know that Americans (black & white) were caught in this situation of unfolding governmental blunders.

I live in Texas - we accepted many of the Louisianna evacuees - at first we were very charitable, but as the post Katrina months dragged out and crime increased by a large percentage, the sympathy began to wane and was replaced by racial tensions & disdain.

I feel for what you had to endure with no water, no electricity and a baby to care for, not to mention the emotional / mental trauma of being displaced and feeling abandoned by your country.  Nothing can erase those memories for you, but the positive uplift at the end is that we learned something about our politicians, our citizens and our country.  People are now more involved & interested in who is running this country and there is more involvement in civic participation.  This is a good thing, imo.
