Question:

Almost 40 weeks pregnant: Serious swelling, numbness, and dizziness???

I'll be 40 weeks on Wednesday and since about 3 weeks I've had BAD swelling on my ankles and feet. It's so bad that I cant move my joints and applying the lightest pressure hurts! As of a week I have no feelings in my right hand's middle finger and ring finger. I made my doc do a urine test to see if I have preeclampsia, but it came out fine. I have high blood pressure though.

I'm not dilated at all, but it's slowly thinning out. I told my doc about all of this and he put me on bedrest, but that's it and if I get blurry vision he told me to go to the hospital. I'm frustrated. It's like he's purposely trying to make things worse. I've tried getting another doctor, but they won't accept me this late..

Could I just go to the hospital and get induced without my regular doctor's consent? What can I do?

  1. id say go to the hospital and get a second opinion. numbness and dizziness are not on the schedule sheet girl. Poo on him and lieif you have to!

  2. Unfortunately you cant go to the hospital and get induced without your doctors concent. I know it sucks. Ive had some of the symptoms you are having and got tested. Everything is normal except I have low iron. If you are that uncomfortable, go to the hospital. ASAP! Best of luck.

  3. you sure can. they have "oncall DRS" ..you could simply say NO your not delivering my baby..and they have NO Choice but to appoint you to another DR. i would go to the hospital..becasue it could be something they missed. a drs office isnt equipet with the same things like a hospital is..they could tell you whats going on..you are REALLY close to having that baby. if i were you.. i wouldnt be puttin up with anyone's BS and go to the hospital and say DO SOMETHING!!!!

you dont take no for an answer.

this is your baby and your Health.

  4. I would get a second opinion on the swelling, numbness and dizziness for sure.

If you go to the hospital, and the doctor on call genuinely thinks you need an induction, they will do it (ONLY if it's absolutely vital) and they will let your regular doctor know.

Keep in mind this is not likely to happen, if they know your regular doctor does not encourage the induction, or does not think it is majorly necessary, they will typically treat on his diagnosis.

But as far as an elective induction goes, your chances are very minimal, unless you've got some kick-butt private health insurance ready to cover it!

  5. what you can do is go to the hospital and tell them your symptoms and they can make that call there but they first will talk with your doctor if you let them know that you have one. if you say you do not have a doctor at this moment for some reason then the doctor on shift will make the call to induce you or not. but your doctor is right about one thing.it is normal to swell up exspecially at the end and really there is nothing you can do except soak your feet wrap your legs. the same with the numbness due to the extra weight and the baby pushing on nerves this does happen sorry for your discomfort hope i helped.

  6. If you're really worried and aren't feeling right, you should go to the ER. What will happen though, is that your doctor or the doctor on call from his practice will be called in to see you, so it will still ultimately be his call. Listen to your body and your inuition and go to the hospital if you feel something isn't right.  High blood pressure is nothing to mess around with in Pregnancy.

  7. Go to the hospital and get checked out. I would definitely get another opinion. That does not sound good for you or the baby. You can refuse to see that doctor again and have the hospital call someone else. What can they do? It's your call and they can't make you see that doctor. Be very firm. Good luck hope everything works out for you with the least amount of stress possible.
