Okay, so I am going into the fifth grade in a few days, but I need help with these math questions:

Mark bought 3 shirts for $9.99 and 2 pairs of trousers for $13.99 each. He also had to pay 5% sales tax on his purchases. How much money did Mark spend in all?

And the second question:

Our 5th grade class sold 312 tickets to our class play. Each ticket cost $2.50. Our class donated 75% of the money we earned form ticket sales to charity. How much did our class donate to charity?

Can you help me figure these out?

Thanks to all who gave a real answer!!!!

  1. $60.85

    $585

  2. 1) mark spent 3*$9.99 on shirts=$29.97 and 2*$13.99=27.98

        5/100=1/20

    so 1/20 * 57.95=2.8975

      57.95

    -02.8975

    =$55.0525

    2)total earned by tickets = 2.5 * 312 = 780$

      75/100 of 780$= 3/4 of 780=195$*3=$585

  3. So (3X9.99)+(2X13.99)=$57.95

    So, $87.92+0.05=$58

  4. 1) 3 shirts -> 3*$9.99 = 29.97

        2 trousers -> 2*$13.99=27.98

    total = 57.95 + 5% of 57.95 = 57.95+2.90=$ 60.85

    2)total earnings = 312*2.50=$780

    75% of earnings= $585

  5. 1)

    Add the amount of the purchases together...

    3* $9.99 + 2*$13.99 = $57.95

    Calculate the sales tax

    Remember that 5% = 0.05  (Percent implies Per Hundred)

    $57.95 * .05 = $2.90 (round up from 2.8975)

    Add the values...

    $57.95 + $2.90 =

    $60.85

    2)

    Find out the total sales

    312 tickets * $2.50 /ticket = $780.00

    Again, 75% = 0.75  (Per hundred)

    $780.00 * 0.75 =

    $585.00 donated.
