take transit to work and there is one tall, eighteen-year-old girl who purposely attracts attention to herself by talking really loudly, being obnoxious by commenting on others behavior or appearance, etc., and intimidating other riders out of their seats. Not me though.

Today she was doing the above to another rider who was visibly scared of her. I have had enough of witnessing this girl’s behavior over the past month so I stood up for the girl and confronted this bully, explaining how obnoxious she was etc. This girl seemed shocked, almost as if no one has ever had the balls to confront her before. Some of her friends even seemed appreciative that finally someone was saying something to her.

The more we went back and forth, the less and less intimidating this girl appeared to me and I guess other frequent riders of the bus who had also been witnessing this behavior and sided with me in this confrontation.

This whole situation has me questioning why she would behave this way. My guess is she acts like a tyrant because she is big and has been getting away with it thus far, or she is really insecure so she attacks other people before they can hit her where it hurts. What do you think?

  1. Bullies are bullies because that is how they learned to compensate for their insecurity from early on in life.  Bullying people empowers them and makes them feel in control of their lives.
