Alois Kankovsky claimed the second stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012
Alois Kankovsky of Team ASC Dukla Praha wins the second stage of the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012 after his heroic performance during the event.
He took a cumulative time of 2 hours, 50 minutes and 16 seconds to complete the 129 kilometre race, scheduled at the Zhangjiagang Shuangshandao Island.
Yuri Metlushenko of Team Konya Torku Seker Spor, Alexander Serebryakov of Team Type 1 – Sanofi, Sebastian Körber of Team Nutrixxion Abus and Leonid Krasnov of Team RusVelo claimed the second, third, fourth and fifth positions in the respective order.
“I was confident since I know the race for having won twice here last year, it’s not a surprise for me to win but we never know what can happen in a sprint,” said Kankovsky.
“For sure the best sprinter has won today. My little regret is that I’ve had to open the sprint quite far away from the finish because my teammate Sergey Grechin got caught in the crash”.
Stage 1 winner, Milan Kadlec looked good but could not really get his guts together as he had to settle for the tenth overall position during the stage 2 of the race.
“Our team was strong enough to keep the bunch all together,” Kadlec told Cyclingnews.
“Hong Kong had the same intention as us, so it was difficult for the others to believe they could break away. The wind made our tactic a bit easier too”.
Meiyin Wang of Team Hengxiang Cycling Team wins the first and the third sprints of the race while Hao Liu of Team Max Success Sports succeeded during the sprint 2 of the event.
Alois Kankovsky bagged the maximum number of 14 points during the race with Yuri Metlushenko (12 points), Alexander Serebryakov (10 points), Sebastian Körber (8 points) and Leonid Krasnov (6 points) claimed the next four positions.
Milan Kadlec of Team ASC Dukla Praha currently leads the Tour of Taihu Lake 2012 stage 2 general classifications with a lead of 7 seconds over Joey Rosskopf.
Floris Goesinnen of Team Drapac Cycling, Ki Ho Choi of Team Hong Kong and Mathieu Delaroziere of Team La Pomme Marseille occupied the third, fourth and the fifth positions in the respective order.
