Alomar not hurt by White Sox managerial selection process
Sandy Alomar Jr. took the time to talk to the press after his interview with the Chicago Cubs ended at Wrigley Field in Chicago on Friday, November 11. The Cleveland Indians bench coach has been doing well in the Major Leagues and his move for the managerial
position came as no surprise to many spectators. The former Major League catcher may not be the best pick but he has been in the coaching business for the last four years.
The six time All – Star Backstop has 20 seasons of experience in the baseball circuit as a player and he has served under 10 different managers in the process. It is noble to point out that seven of those skippers have entered the World Series. While Alomar
does not possess managerial experience, his days as an instructor and coach have hardened his understanding of the game.
Apart from discussing the Cubs’ interview for the manager’s position, former catcher told the press he was not hurt by the Chicago White Sox when they did not call him up for the vacant managerial position. Alomar was part of the White Sox club for quite
some time. The club picked Robin Ventura for the skipper’s position eventually.
"I don't take that personally," Alomar said. "I have a lot of respect for the White Sox organization. What [GM Kenny Williams] did over there with Robin opens doors for many other people to take opportunities to sign managers without experience. They don't
owe me a call, they don't owe me anything.
"They did what they did, and you wish them the best of luck," he said. "Kenny always treated me with respect when I was there."
Alomar has been trying to take the next big step in his career in baseball. He has already presented himself to the Boston Red Sox as a managerial replacement for the removed manager, Terry Francona.
If the Alomar is selected by the Cubs, he will be taking over the helm from Mike Quade. The Cubs are trying hard to win the World Series title. The last time they lifted the title, it was in 1908.
