Alonso has high hopes for Ferrari in Canada Grand Prix

Fernando Alonso is very confident about his Ferrari team's chances in the Canadian Grand Prix.  He assures that they still have half a season to move to the top of the Constructors’ Championship. So far the team stands at third place in the constructors’ standings with just one win in the year. However, as they move forward to the Canadian Grand Prix the drivers are looking to bag some good points and they hope to improve their position.

So far, Ferrari has been able to secure a total of one hundred and forty six points, two places behind McLaren that has one hundred and seventy two points and one place shy of Red Bull that has a total of one hundred and seventy one points. With a difference of twenty six points is to be eliminated to reach at the top of the constructors’ tally.

Though Ferrari has not enjoyed the best starts in this season, driver Alonso is now confident that the team is getting back to form and it can reverse its fortunes as the sport reaches its mid calendar.

In Turkey last month, Alonso struggled in qualifying and could not make it through to Q3 and had to begin the race from twelfth place. Ultimately, he ended at eighth place, just behind Felipe Massa the other driver for Ferrari.

Alonso, while talking to the Formula One official website, said that the weekend in Turkey had been a tough one but now the spirit and passion of the team is revitalized for racing. He added that everyone involved with the team hates to see it lose and hence they are all working really hard to provide the drivers with the best possible cars to take the lead in the competition.

Expressing satisfaction, he said that he is sure the questions that have arisen about the performance of their F10 would be all killed. He added that McLaren’s F-duct, has alerted them to run their development program more aggressively. He said that he is certain that the blown rear wing device designed by Ferrari will eventually turn out to be better than any other.

He talked about the fact that in the past few years there had been a lot of discussion about Ferrari not being able to develop their cars at a pace that matched other manufacturers’. However, he dismissed such claims as mere gossip and said the team brought updates in almost all races. While stating that the drivers are working as hard and he hopes that the results will soon be visible.

However, he accepted that in Spain, their team did not make progress the way the other teams did. He added that this was the reason for difficulties that they had to face in Barcelona as well as in Istanbul. He showed satisfaction at the blown rear wing as he told that they had been able to get the most out of it and soon it would prove beneficial for them on the track.

Alonso appeared to be back in action on Friday at the first practice round at the Canadian Grand Prix. He is very thrilled and excited as the race goes back to the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve after a gap of a year.

He expects the entire team to be working at their best and to return with some great scores. McLaren and Red Bull seem to be their biggest competitors for the race, and they seem to be prepared for them.
