Alonso says Ferrari still doing their best to be competitive in last five rounds – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has said that his team is still trying its best to be competitive in the last five rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Alonso added that despite their current form in the ongoing season, the Maranello-based outfit is ready to keep fighting until the end of the 2011 championship battle.
Both of the drivers, Alonso and Felipe Massa failed to finish their recently held Singapore Grand Prix on the podium, as their rivals were faster as compared to them.
The Spaniard talked to the media and mentioned that after getting the Singapore race results, the team still wishes to redeem itself and prove its worth in the last stages of the season.
Alonso commented, “When you see that the entire team is doing its utmost and maybe even more, you can only be satisfied. We were convinced we could make a step forward after the summer break, but it did not turn out that way, while our rivals progressed
even more.”
He added, “It is this type of attitude which, last spring, convinced me to extend my contract to the end of 2016. If I did not believe in the quality and determination of the people and the potential in terms of the structure and resources, then I would
not have made that decision.”
The 30-year-old driver started his race from the fifth position at the Marina Bay street circuit and after fighting with his rivals, he ended up in the fourth spot ahead of McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton.
After taking fourth place in the Singapore race, Alonso is placed at the third place with 184 points in the 2011 drivers’ championship.
His teammate Massa has failed to get a podium position in the season so far. In Singapore, he came at the ninth place in the final race classifications.
The Brazilian is sitting at the sixth place with 84 points in the title fight at the moment.
Let’s see how both of the drivers Alonso and Massa perform in the rest of the 2011 season.
