Alonso sees Red Bull’s dominance declining next year
The Ferrari driver, Fernando Alonso sees a less impressive 2011 season by the current title winner, Red Bull. The Spaniard believes that changes brought in the FIA regulations for next year, will not serve the team very well and their dominance on the track
will come to an end.
The 2010 season had been a ‘Red Bull season’. The team’s RB6 was able to demonstrate great speed on the track, right from the beginning of the season, and maintained its pace all through the season. The team closed the 2009 season at second place behind
the winner of both the drivers’ as well as the constructors’ championship, Brawn GP. However, as the team entered the grid this season, they possessed a renewed pace, an unmatched determination and of course, two of the smartest men in the Formula One crew,
the team Principal, Christian Horner who is also the youngest team boss in the sport and the chief car designer, Adrian Newey. Moreover, the two team drivers, Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel also proclaimed a great form and fighting spirit at one after the
other race. With the team’s nine race wins, including 20 podium positions and 15 poles, it ended the season with 476 points under its belt.
After having fought a very tough battle for the title with the other leading teams of the season, McLaren and Ferrari, finally the Red Bull was able to bag both the championships of this season. Only after six years on the grid, starting off with an image
of ‘young lads out for fun’, the team stood out as the strongest and most threatening squad on the grid.
Although the Austrian group is adamant to come back next season with the same frightening force and a strong will to win, the two times world champion, Alonso believes that it will receive strong opposition and will not be able to maintain its dominance.
FIA has come up with some very crucial changes in its regulation for the upcoming season. This is a matter of routine in the sport as every season sees several modifications in its rules. New ideas are always welcomed to the sport to enhance the entertainment
value and to add drama and competition on the grid. Among other major changes, two most important ones include the introduction of adjustable front wing along with the return of Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems (KERS). Both these changes are brought in with
the aim of increasing the number of overtaking opportunities on the track which will surely increase the thrill of the sport.
Alonso encourages both these changes and believes that they will serve the sport very well. While talking to the reporters he said, "Obviously every year normally Formula 1 changes rules to make it more spectacular, to have more overtaking maneuvers and
to have a better show," he said. It's true that in 2011 there are two big changes to the regulations, which is the KERS and the rear wing that we can move when we have an overtaking possibility. I think these two combined give us a speed advantage that is
quite big compared to the car in front.
He further added, “So I'm confident that next year, finally, the rules will help overtaking and we will have a better show for everybody."
However, he believes that his team, Ferrari, the British squad, McLaren and Ross Brawn’s Mercedes GP are going to come up very strong next season and these changes are going to help their cars brilliantly. This simply means that the dominance of Red Bull
will end, and the competition among the top four teams is going to be very intense in 2011.
