Alonso still feels uncomfortable returning to Yas Marina Circuit after 2010 Abu Dhabi GP – Formula 1
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso is still feeling uncomfortable to return to the Yas Marina Circuit for the upcoming race weekend after his seventh position in the 2010 Abu Dhabi race.
Alonso admitted that the 2010 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix results still hurt him a lot, as his seventh place at the end of the race cost him the 2010 world championship.
The Spaniard talked about the upcoming Abu Dhabi race weekend, which is scheduled to be held on Sunday, November 13 at the Yas Marina Circuit. He added that their target is the podium for the 2011 Abu Dhabi race at the moment and that he is looking forward
to be back on the grid this time following his disappointing last year’s race.
Alonso commented, “But then the feeling will vanish and it will leave room for the present, which is about aiming to do well this weekend and in the future: to learn as much as possible with next season in mind. It's right that it should be like that because
in sport, as in the rest of life, you must always look ahead.”
Apart from that, the Maranello-based outfit driver discussed the 2011 drivers’ standings. He stated that he wanted to fight for victory rather than second place in the drivers’ championship, but finishing the races on the podium was a more realistic target
for him for the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The Ferrari driver went on to mention, “We know if we all get everything right we can fight for the top three but our natural qualifying position is on the third row. Then in the race things can go differently but that is the realistic situation.”
In the 2011 Indian Grand Prix, Alonso successfully finished the race on the last step of the podium behind McLaren’s Jenson Button.
The 30-year-old driver is placed at the third position ahead of Red Bull Racing’s Mark Webber with 227 points at the moment.
Alonso is very competitive at the moment and ready to fight for his podium finishes in the last two rounds of the ongoing season.
Let’s see how he manages his race this time at the Yas Marina Circuit this weekend.
