Alonso surprised at Rosberg’s escape from penalty after Bahrain GP – Formula 1 news
Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso has expressed his amazement on Mercedes AMG driver Nico Rosberg’s escape from receiving any kind of penalty regardless of forcing two drivers off the track in the 2012 Bahrain Grand Prix held on April 22.
Rosberg compelled the Spaniard, Alonso and Lewis Hamilton of McLaren to go off the track in order to avoid clashes at two occasions during the race. However, the German driver did not face any penalty for this.
Even though, all the three drivers were called for investigation after the race at Sakhir with their team representatives, conversely, the decision was passed in the favour of Rosberg and it was declared that he did nothing wrong as he was just defending
his position.
On the other hand, Alonso said that he is surprised on the decision which has been taken.
“I can only say that if, instead of such a wide run-off area, there had been a wall, I'm not sure I'd be here now to talk about it,” he said.
In addition, it would be interesting to mention that Alonso said, “I think you are going to have fun in future races. You can defend position as you want and you can overtake outside the track! Enjoy!”
Rosberg could not score even a single point in the first two races of the season and finished at 12th and 13th positions. Nevertheless, he took the first victory of his career in the third race held at the Shanghai International Circuit in China after claiming
his maiden pole.
Besides, he secured a 5th place finish in the last race held at Sakhir and is currently at sixth position in the drivers’ standings.
Contrarily, his rival, Alonso has also won the second race at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia while he secured an impressive fifth place finish in the first race. Moreover, in the last two races he secured 9th and 7th place finish.
Nonetheless, he is standing one place ahead of Rosberg in the drivers’ championship with 43 points in the season until now.
