Fernando Alonso vows attack in upcoming Korean F1 Battle
With three remaining rounds left and following his third place scoring in Suzuka Japan behind team Red Bull, Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso vowed to take a more aggressive posture against the favoured Mark
Webber in the upcoming Formula One race in South Korea, which will take place on October 24.
Alonso acknowledged that in Korea, they'll have to pull all their punches.
“We will have to attack because now we must close the gap," said Alonso to Ferrari's web site, referring to racing against Webber, who currently enjoys a 14-point lead.
While the Ferrari team’s position is tenuous, Alonso believes the race is still anyone's game and is determined to offset early setbacks by making gains in the upcoming Yeongam race.
"Too many times this year we’ve seen someone come back into the game after they’d seemed out of it – and that could easily happen again.”
A victory in Korea could turn the tide for the fledgling hopeful, who also believes his teammate, Felipe Massa, will contribute to the upcoming battle by providing an effective countermeasure against Webber.
"For me it will be important also to be able to count on my team-mate Felipe. I know that he will be really hoping to make up for two negative results and he has all the capacities required to return
to the podium.”
Since the Federation of International Automobiles (FIA) has only approved of the Korean International Circuit track earlier this week, in training for the upcoming race, Alonso has relied on virtual reality
simulators. Observing that the “tarmac is wide, which should make it possible to try overtaking moves”, the Ferrari team is looking forward to getting a first-hand feel of the track in order to plan their strategy to undermine the favored Webber in what is
shaping up to be the fiercest battle on the Korean peninsula since General MacArthur’s Incheon landing in 1950.
