I'm getting married in Oct. I'm SO not girly and actually do not want a wedding, BUT fiance wants it so.. here I am, having no idea what to do about a wedding dress.

I'm very hesitant to go in to a bridal shop b/c well I'm just not a people person and do NOT want some sales person anywhere near me hanging over me like a vulture. I just don't like people I don't know touching me or anything like that.

So here I am asking for help here heh.

So first up, what dresses should I be looking for & staying away from b/c of the short amount of time. I know the uber detailed ones w/ all the sparkly bead work and such isn't gonna happen (not that I like it), and I don't want one that is too simple, but say... I wanted a dress like this one

Guesstimate about how long I would need for it to be ready.

  1. You can check out this website: http://fancyweddingattire.com/category/a...

There's a lot of information about wedding dress.

  2. That dress is pretty. A line dresses are the way to go. Steer clear of empire dresses or you will look pregnant. Don't know about ordering from the net but if you go with a family member or close friend to the store they can be the one zipping you up and stuff.

  3. commend Davidsbridal(http://www.davidsbridal.com/index.jsp)

  4. A-line dresses are flattering for almost every body type. V-neck are also very suited to plus-sized women who have a large bust as they break it up a bit to make you seem a bit less top-heavy. That being said, I know a lot of well-designed strapless gowns look really great on plus-sized women because they are designed to pull everything in at the right places. And anything that is cinched in at the waist is good- it gives you a good shape!

I think the main thing is that you have to try the dresses on. If you're an apple shape definitely steer clear of an empire waist. However, if you're an hourglass shape you may be able to get away with it in certain dresses but not others (in general very few people can pull off an empire waist- even lots of thin people end up looking pregnant). If you're worried about a sales assistant taking over and trying to talk you into things, take an honest friend/relative that will take charge of the situation.

As for a time frame- I'd start looking asap. Many stores take a few months to order in dresses and you may need extra time for any alterations that need to be done.

  5. David's bridal has an online store (www.davidsbridal.com) they have really nice dresses, and reviews.

  6. I like the gown you chose but I would even go simpler and straighter....The simpler the better....I would buy a gown that is semi formal with an empress waistline...soft fabric..nothing stiff.  Maybe a little beading on top.  But very simple in design.  Try these sites:  Look under semi formal gowns.

    dessy.com

    alfredangelo.com

    rinadimontella.com

    wattersbridals.com

    verawang.com

    amsale.com

All these gowns go up in sizes so you will find a gown that you like.  When you find a gown, print out a copy and get the designer, the number and then go to your bridal store and ask them if they carry it.  Lots of times, the designer website will tell you what bridal store in your city and state carry their gowns.  Good Luck

  7. Beautiful dress!  Here are my suggestions:

    1.  A Line and Empire waist look best on full-figure girls

    2.  I know you don't want to, but you have to try some on to figure out what you want

    3.  Go to the store TOMORROW!!!  It can often take a minimum of 6 weeks, often longer to get your dress, and you need time for alterations-(at least 2 weeks, depending on your alterations person and how fast they work.  More time may be needed for multiple alterations, which may be necessary).

    4.  Try David's Bridal, they have a pretty good plus-size collection.  My best friend just got one there, and it's plus-size, and she looks SPECTACULAR in it!

    5.  If you don't like David's Bridal, go to your local shop.  You may be surprised how many inexpensive/affordable dresses they have.  In addition to that, you can look at the tags, find the designer, and buy it off the internet.  I would not purchase from the internet without trying them on first, because wedding dress sizes are DRASTICALLY different-(usually quite a bit smaller) than regular dress sizes.

    6.  Good luck, and congrats!!!

  8. I think that dress is lovely.  I also think it would flatter most figures, too.

Find a local tailor with experience in wedding dress fittings and ask about time.   There are plenty of people who get married on a short time schedule--you do not have to endure 6 months of fittings.  My best friend got a $400 dress from David's Bridal here in FL, got exactly 2 fittings in about 3 weeks and she was done and ready to go.

I don't see any reason why that dress wouldn't work for you.  Call the website customer service and ask very specific questions about measurements and size before you order so the tailor has less to do.

    Good Luck.

  9. I work in a bridal salon, my job is helping brides choose their wedding dress.  A good salesperson will "hover" as much or as little as a bride would like.  I never touch a bride without asking her permission first, however, you need to be aware that to get an accurate fit we would have to get your measurements, and that would be over a well fitting bra and panties.  Also, some wedding dresses can be quite cumbersome, and you literally need help getting into and out of them.  Especially when the dress is still on our rack, and we'd like to sell it, we're not going to let a customer ruin an expensive gown trying to get it on herself when we know she won't be able to.  Our shop also handles quite a bit of plus sized brides, we have dresses in stock up to size 24W, and can order even larger.

Please, I beg you, do not make the purchase of probably the most important dress you will ever wear over the internet.  You REALLY need to try a dress on to get a feel for how it will look on you.  Even the plus sized models usually have an hour glass figure--so you can't get a good feel for how a dress will look on you if you're more apple shaped, or simply don't have a defined waist.  Everyone, not just plus sized gals, has a body issue that they want to disguise, and everyone has a feature they can emphasize--a good bridal consultant will find those in you within 2 minutes of your walking in the door of the store.  So, even though you're concerned, please find a bridal salon to go to and try on some dresses.  If you feel a salesperson is too pushy, or hovers too much, say so, and if they keep it up, walk out.  Then go to the next store on your list.

Since your wedding's in October, you'd probably have to go with something that's already in stock, either in the store or in the designer's warehouse--I doubt there would be time to have something custom made, but I never say never.  You do need to do this asap though--I've had dresses take a couple of weeks to come in, and I've had dresses take 8 months to come in--it just really depends on the designer and what the bride is ordering.  This is also why you need to go to a bridal store for this--the salespeople there KNOW what designers to steer you towards, we know who in our lines we carry would be able to deliver your order, and who wouldn't, and we wouldn't even show you a gown in those designers who we felt wouldn't be able to fill your order in time.

I wish you all the best in your search!  Good luck!

  10. Go to a bridal shop and tell them how you feel, you want help but you still want space.  you arent sure what you want and you want to do this on your own time.

Look at websites like davids, thiey have a plus sized collection.  Write down the style numbers you like and make an appoitment.  Go at your own pace and if you are uncomfortable, leave.

Also, try depenarment stores.  you can find white dresses that arent "wedding" but will work just fine!

Its not about a certain stlye but what you like once its on you!
