The former Kenya batsman, Alpesh Vadher, was on Wednesday, June 22, 2011, named as the chairman of the newly-formed selection committee.
The Cricket Kenya chief, Tom Sears, expressed confidence in the 36-year-old former Nairobi cricketer and said that the struggling board would benefit from his experience.
"Alpesh has represented his country with distinction and has a wealth of knowledge and experience which he can offer…There is no doubt that Alpesh can contribute enormously in these areas," said Sears while talking to the media reporters
today.
Vadher debuted in international cricket on October 10, 1997 and went on to play 18 One Day Internationals for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 compiling 278 runs at an average of 27.80. He was also part of Kenya’s 1999 and 2003 World Cup squads.
The selection panel includes two other members, an elite development head and a selector. The three member committee will be advised by the captain and coach of the Kenya Cricket team.
The Cricket Kenya underwent a complete overhaul following the World Cup debacle, which saw the low-ranked side losing all of its league matches. The top-to-bottom review of game's composition saw both coach and the captain losing their
roles.
The selection committee was also dissolved. The newly-constituted selection committee will be responsible for the selection of national teams. Besides national team, the panel will also look after the selection process of A team and
U-19 squad.
The newly appointed Cricket Kenya selection committee chairman expressed satisfaction over the changes being made in country’s domestic circuit.
"I am confident that with the changes Cricket Kenya is introducing, particularly in terms of domestic competition, we will have a stronger and wider pool of players to choose from going forward," said Vadher.
"There is a great deal of young talent in Kenya. We need to bring those http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Young-c98322 players through if we are to compete successfully on the international stage in the coming years,” he added further.
The Cricket Kenya is also contemplating a complete overhaul of its players’ central contract policy in a bid to restructure country’s game. Contracts will be awarded primarily based on performances in the new league structure and the
selection panel will recommend players for central contracts.
