Alpha Tauri top contender for victory in Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival Handicap (Div I)
Alpha Tauri is expected to dominate proceedings in the Yorkshire Racing Summer Festival Handicap (Div I) at Catterick in England on Wednesday, July 11, 2012. The class-6 winner will bag a cash prize of £2,045.
A total of 13 runners will battle out for victory in the 7 furlong event, which is scheduled to start at 16:20 GMT. The going will be soft due to the overnight rain, which will make things easy for Alpha Tauri, who has been given a general starting price
of 4 to 1 by the bookmakers.
The four-year-old gelding might not be a consistent performer, but his recent showings have been good, which will encourage the punters to place bets on him. He has taken part in a total of 32 events, winning four of them. Other than that, he finished runner
up on six times whereas secured the third spot once.
The David C. Griffiths’ trainee made his debut in 2008 and took part in just a couple of events that year. He was unable to make an impression in any of them and finished sixth each time.
However, the start to the 2009 season was extremely good for the seasoned runner, who finished runner up in his first outing back then. The competition was relatively easy for him, thus the bookies had rated him as the favourite to win. Despite that, he
was unable to take the top spot, which was a touch disappointing.
Alpha Tauri went onto take part in three more races that year, but failed to deliver a positive result in any of them. He managed to win his first race in 2010, but was inconsistent in other events.
In 2011, the Aldebaran’s son out of Seven Moons performed with some consistency, which was a positive sign. He won a couple of events that year, making his team proud.
Although the ongoing season did not look good for Alpha Tauri at the start, yet he came back strongly and delivered a few decent runs. He finished runner up in his previous race, where the going was soft as well. His partner in the race today will be Robbie
Fitzpatrick, who has earned a few victories at this level.
