Already filed for FAFSA?

I did my fafsa in february, but just yesterday i corrected it and put "already filed" --will that affect how much money i recieve when school starts?

  1. Schools won't issue you an award letter based on an "will file" income tax return status just for that reason.  So you will likely never know.  

    I WOULD however recommend you change your "already filed" status sooner than June next year because June is pretty late in the year.  (I'd say as soon as your parents do their taxes.)  You might have missed out on limited grants because you still had estimated "will file" data on your fafsa.


  2. That depends on what corrections you made.  If you originally reported 20K in income for 2007, but then you went back later and changed it to 30K in income for 2007, then you will receive less financial aid.

    There are many changes relating to income, dependency status,   residency status, the degree you are seeking, etc.  Any of those changes have the potential to increase, decrease, eliminate, or qualify you for specific funding.

    Just depends on what you are changing.
