Alrie Guna Dharma topples Lim Fang Yang in first round of the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge
Indonesia’s Alrie Guna Dharma toppled Malaysia’s Lim Fang Yang in the first round of Men’s Singles at the 2011 Indonesia International Challenge, in Indonesia, on Tuesday, July 19.
Guna Dharma opened his campaign in the Indonesia International in an impressive manner, as he played wonderful badminton and was successful in winning the three-set battle by taking a court time of 60 minutes.
The start of the first game was surprising for the Indonesian, as he received severe treatment from the hands of the Malaysian, who delivered a stunning performance in this set. Lim Fang reached 11-5 in a flash without facing any resistance from Guna Dharma,
who was playing negative badminton.
After the interval, the Indonesian tried to play positively to stop the progressive run of the Malaysian, who was rushing towards the end of the opening game. Guna Dharma could not play up to the expectations of the home crowd and lost the game with a dramatic
9-21 margin, in just 16 minutes.
However, in the following set, the local shuttler presented his superb skills against the firing challenger by playing fast from all corners of the court. Guna Dharma’s net play was quite impressive, as his spinning shots and deceptive lobs earned him a
wonderful advantage in this game of the match.
The score remained close until the concluding phase of this set, when the Indonesian played planned badminton and levelled the match by clinching the second game with a margin of 21-18, in 23 minutes.
The third set of this wonderful fight was also worth watching, as both players engaged the huge crowd by playing to their full potential. The cracking sounds of the powerful jump smashes could be heard in the big indoor hall, as both players were playing
an attacking game.
However, Guna Dharma played exceptionally well in this phase of the game and won the set with a 21-17 margin, in 21 minutes. The three-set match ended in 60 minutes with the score of 9-21, 21-18 and 21-17.
