Who of you would take a $25-worth rabbit to a hospital for $100 checkup plus extra bucks for the treatments?

I love my rabbit because he's mine, alright, and my parents care too, but they think otherwise because the rabbit was 'only a 25 bucks'.

don't get morals or suppose-to's or any **** like those into this. Just your feelings.

  1. I believe that when You get a pet, You are responsible for that pet. Regardless of what kind of pet it is. This inludes Vet bills, regardless of how much they amount to. BUT sometimes It is unaffordable and maybe the prognosis is grim. In those cases euthanization may be the most humane thinng to do. I got my dogs for free, but their health care is of utmost importance. The value of a pet lies not in the PRICE You paid for the pet, but how You value that pet in your heart and in your life. That special friend who always seems to understand. Could You look into those BIG dark eyes and deny your bunny the care that he needs? I think not! Good luck to You and maybe your parents will come around and realize the responsibility and welfare of your little bunny.

  2. I paid $60 for my rabbit 3 years ago when mini lops were relatively rare. Since then he has cost me at least $500-$600 in vet bills.

He has been desexed, but also he went blind very early on and needed treatment to try to get his sight back, he nearly died of heat stroke once, and i am so happy that he is still around.

I know that many people think that if you dont spend much money on your pets why should you pay heaps to treat them- you do it because it is your responsibility as a pet owner and because you love them and want to make them better.

Would you not treat a sick dog that you got given free to a good home?

We got our dog ftgh 10 years ago and she was healthy most of her life until her final year where she developed diabetes, cataracts, urine tract infections, arthritis, cystitis, etc. In the end she did need to be euthenised but the thousands spent on her treatment were worth it because she was a member of the family and we didnt want to loose her until she was ready to go.

The reality is that if you care for your pets you will always spend more on the vet treatments than you will ever pay for the pet in its lifetime.

  3. i've done that. i had a pet rat that was in need of treatment, so i brought them in. about $200 later, i discovered i had a $3 rat with cancer which couldn't be treated. i brought him home and gave him a good life for his remaining days. there weren't many, but no price tag can be put on love when it comes to my pets.

  4. You could offer to repay the money to them. Try to let them know in a calm and mature manner how much the animal means to you. You could also contact some vets or the animal shelters and see if anyone would give you a break on the price, explain your situation, it can't hurt.

  5. I have a cousin that did spend way more on a rabbits vet bill.

and the rabbit got better. But your parents may not can afford the bill with the way the economy is and the cost of everything else, discuss it with them calmly.Ask if maybe you can repay the bill somehow maybe a after school job

  6. definately! thats a living and breathing creature, i would either take care of it properly or give it to someone else who would if i couldn't.

  7. To put it bluntly:

They got you for free, didn't they?

No, I'm in NO way implying that you are worthless.  But what if a $100 rabbit was given to you for free.  Would it be worth enough to buy a $5 bag of food?  I work as a vet tech and have seen people who got a kitten for free, loved it dearly for years, and when it gets sick, they spend hundreds of dollars on it.

Do not focus on the value of the animal.  Focus on the value of your feelings for the animal.  Also, there may be other vets who would be cheaper or you may be able to find other treatments or ways to help your little one out if your parents absolutely refuse.  What's going on with it?
