Alright, need some BIG TIME HELP FAST, my Leopard Gecko is in trouble

Okay, I just got this Leopard Gecko from a lady today. It's a Female, about 7 inches long, and is VERY skinny. One of her eyes are shut, and I don't know if the other one can EVEN CLOSE because it has like a hard covering over it (just the eye ball itself). When she poops, it's barely anything at all, and is brown little ball. The previous owner told me when she's seen her p**p, it's almost a little mucus-ish. She does not seem to be hungry, and the previous owner also told me that she tried dabbing baby food on the leo's lips, had her l**k it off, and the lizard almost looked like she was choking on it/spitting it out. Now, I have two leo's of my own for a few years now and I can't figure out what in the world is wrong with this little lady but I don't want to give up on her. PLEASE reply asap with suggestions and ideas, (not "take her to the vet" I will do that but the closest one (that sees reptiles) within 52 miles won't be open till Tuesday, assuming I can get in THAT DAY). But UNTIL I can get to the vet, info? Suggestions? Anything? Thanks guys!

  1. You might try listing your question here:

  2. Soak her in warm water to rehydrate her and to loosen up what I suspect is stuck on shed on her eyes.  15 minutes should be fine, and repeat daily.  No baby food...animal protein is very different from insect protein and can be harmful.  Once she is warm and hydrated she may eat.  Try small crickets (squish them a little so they move but so she can catch them easily).  She may be full of parasites or she may be impacted if she was kept on sand or other loose substrate.  Make sure your UTH belly heat temps are 88-91F.

  3. Sickly reptiles appreciate: heat, high humidity, darkness and being alone.

That's what I'd do for now.  Cover the cage she's in with a towel, turn the heat to the warm side of comfy and leave her be until the vet trip Tuesday.

I'm thinking she has an infection.  Either parasite or bacteria.  Maybe both.

Try to reduce stress for the next few days.  Force feedings are stressful.  I'd skip that for now.  You could leave a few tiny crickets in with her in case she decides to eat on her own.

You probably know the baby food is a bad idea so I'll leave it at that.

    Good luck.
