I went to go sit on my couch earlier this morning, And My knee gives out and i slam into the back of the couch and my knee hit something like wood.. I have a cut on it and it's nothing serious, But later that day. I am dealing with pain i cannot bear. I have no insurance. I don't know if it's something serious. Or i am just a wimp. It's when i move it in one direction it kills it feels like someone is stabbing me. It's swelled alot. And it's raised up where i hurt myself.. and my other knee isn't like that.. Could someone tell me what i should look for if it's serious?

  1. Go to a doctor if you're concerned

  2. Alternate with ibuprofen and acetaminophen for the pain(if you have no known heath contradictions from using them.)  Don't use them at the same time.  Motrin can be taken 4-6 hours I believe that acetaminophen is about the same.  So maybe after 2 hours of taken motrin, take tylenol.  Keep a record of the times when you take medication so not to accidental overdose and read the labels carefully.

Make sure you keep your wound cleansed and covered, changing bandages often if need.  I once had a cut in front of my leg though not a really big cut, but it did get infected and caused a world of hurt(stabbing pains). It took a few days but eventually had gotten better. Sometimes, intense pain can signal that you may have developed an infection.  I had a neighbor in the health care profession that helped manage my wounds at home.  There are antispectic sprays and liquids you can pour over your wound.  May sure to dry off your wound promptly after showering and administer wound care.

Cellulitis can occur after such a injury so keep an eye out for it.  Below are some links.

If you at some point feel you need to see a doctor, you can call around at urgent care centers.  Visits are about 45-65$ on the average.  Many places you can charge on a credit card.

Oh, the swelling you might try ice and rest for the knee for now.  It could just be from the impact from the injury and this may take a few days for the swelling to subside.

If your income meets eligibility, you may be able to check out your local goverment office that handles medicaid.  Sometimes they maintain websites that can give you information about applying.  Sometimes you never know what resources are out there until you pick up a phone.

I'm not a doctor, but I hope this helps.

  3. This is something you should get checked out. It could lead to a life of pain if not properly cared for. It could be nothing and they tell you to go home and ice it, or you could of torn ligaments. You body is not something you should take advantage of.

  4. you could have ruptured the cartilage this would need an op done by key hole surgery.

or a tear or rupture on the ACL which could need surgery

if they are only partial tears sometimes they are left.

pain and swelling is never a good sign and always needs looking at
