ok. i am TRYING to plan a surprise birthday party for my boyfriend. he will be turning 24. i need YOUR help with ideas for a theme. here a few of the 'guidelines' i am encountering.

- we do not drink, so a drinking themed/drunken mess would NOT work

- he is a fun, silly & outgoing guy (last year i threw him a spider-man party at an amusement center and he loved it!)

- some of his family are going to be there and are more conservative (don't know how they would feel about spiderman or slip & slides = /

- there will not be a TON of people there, so i need something that is suitable for a tight-knit group vs. a giant place full of random people.

i am completely lost for ideas here. so load up the suggestions! i'm looking for something fun. something original. something that EVERYONE will enjoy. please help!!

thank you

  1. Get a game called Guestures. It's an acting out game for parties and there's teams it's really fun. Even the stiffs will have fun. Make sure the teams are well balanced with intelligence and enthusiasm. And just have a black, yellow and blue themed party. (colors of the game) ...Also get a picture cake made. Find a really silly and incriminating picture of him and have it printed on the cake. Like his face really large on the cake. Get new years noise makers for every one for when you sing happy birthday.

  2. Do you have a mini-golf place near you?  Everyone loves that.  Then bring out that cake with that embarrassing photo on it.  Or even bowling or frisbee golf.  Some of the best memories I have of college are Pictionary and charades.  And make up mocktails.  Like mimosas made with sparkling grape juice, or virgin daiquiris, or fruit juice punch.

Oh, and for the games?  The losers have to pose for funny pictures, those will be keepsakes and good birthday memories.

  3. Have all kinds or finger foods, Virgin drinks or rootbeer floats. My family loves playing games, Apples to Apples is a lot of fun. You could also have a bunco party, lots of fun also!

    Have a great time!

  4. This might be to retro- but my family use to have family card parties.  The adults would play gin rummy or Royal rummy and the younger folks would play simpler games like old maid, etc.  To mix things up, people would have to change tables every few hands.  That way everyone talked to everyone else.

The food was simple - sandwiches, chips, etc.

  5. Well, you could be totally goofy and have a party at Chuck E Cheese's, or if there's a Dave & Busters in your area, or any other kind of arcade-themed place, have the party there. Or if it's nice where you live, have a mini-putt contest with everyone that's invited. Or (again if it's nice...) have a party at someones house and have badminton, croquet, volleyball...

Or would everyone invited dress up? What about throwing a theme party - like of his favorite era of music or his favorite movie?

  6. Have a murder Mystery Party, I included the link below on ways of doing this, best part is, you can make the murder be the kick off to the surprise.  This seems to work well with mix aged groups, and if you b/f if really goofy, you can get him a Sherlock Holmes hat and pipe and let him play the lead slueth.  Have fun.

  7. Movie night.
