My puppy is (I just counted) almost 13 weeks old. He had the shots that he needed when he was 8 weeks.

When should I get his next set of shots (what age)? And which ones do I NEED? And if you want to add which of the recommended that I should get that would be great!

and I should add that google sucks b/c all you get is contradicting information and I know that there are people on here that are vets or vet techs who know what they are talking about

and calling my vet will not work out

so NO I'm not being lazy

  1. Puppies get three rounds of shots. At 8 weeks old they will get their Distemper/Corona/Parvo vaccines, then at 12 weeks they will get the same shots that they got at 8 weeks, then at 16 weeks, they will get the same shots that they got the last 2 times plus their rabies vaccine. There is also the optional shots of Bordatella and Lyme. Bordatella is recommended if you foster animals or if you plan to board your puppy at a kennel.

  2. Don't understand why your vet didn't advise what his vaccination routine was (they do differ from vet to vet and actually country to country) and tell you when to come back in with your puppy.  He should, and will know what second shots he needs.  Very odd.   Around here puppies are vaccinated at 8 and again at 10 weeks.  And I always give it another couple of weeks before taking them out (and that means NOT putting them on the ground, especially in the vet's waiting area).  How many times have I seen people walking in with their un-protected puppy trotting alongside.  Shudders.

Get back to your vet - or find another.  Oh and take the vaccination record you will/should have been given for your puppy when he had his first shots, with you, so the new vet will know what he's been given, which make etc.

  3. Normally it's once a year, although for some I recommend once every 3 years. Second vaccinations are at 10-12 weeks of age. They get their "core" vaccines which are Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper, and Canine adenovirus. Then based on risk, the puppy will get vaccinations for Leptospirosis and Lyme disease.

I would recommend taking him in now for his second set.

  4. Normally, you re-vaccinate once a year. The ones you NEED are actually determined by local laws, so ask your vet about that. (Really, why not just... you know, CALL them. It's not that hard. Even the front desk person can tell you this stuff!)

  5. i already answered this and im right so LISTEN!

and why cant you call them? oh ya cuz its 10 30 on a Monday adn NOBODY would be there to answer the phone right? JEEZ!

  6. vaccinate puppies with a combination vaccine at six weeks of age initially, with boosters given every three weeks until the puppy is about sixteen weeks of age.

5 weeks Parvovirus: for puppies at high risk of exposure to parvo, some veterinarians recommend vaccinating at 5 weeks. Check with your veterinarian.

6 & 9 weeks Combination vaccine* without leptospirosis.

Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.

12 weeks or older Rabies: Given by your local veterinarian (age at vaccination may vary according to local law).

    12 & 15 weeks** Combination vaccine

Leptospirosis: include leptosporosis in the combination vaccine where leptospirosis is a concern, or if traveling to an area where it occurs.

Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.

Lyme: where Lyme disease is a concern or if traveling to an area where it occurs.

    Adult (boosters)§ Combination vaccine

Leptospirosis: include leptospirosis in the combination vaccine where leptospirosis is a concern, or if traveling to an area where it occurs.

Coronavirus: where coronavirus is a concern.

Lyme: where Lyme disease is a concern or if traveling to an area where it occurs.

Rabies: Given by your local veterinarian (time interval between vaccinations may vary according to local law).

  7. He should have 3 sets of shots, one at 8 weeks, 12 weeks and 16 weeks. I would recommend a 7 way, which is Distemper, adenovirus types 1 and 2, parainfluenza, both Leptos and parvovirus 2b. You can do your own if you want (I always do-its a ton cheaper) they cost about $4 per shot, you just inject it into the scruff of the neck or a leg muscle, just if you do in the scruff make sure you don't push the needle through.

At 6 months you would need to take him to the vet to get his Rabies, most states won't recconize the rabies unless you get it through a vet, check with your local shelter to find when the next rabies clinic is, usually they are free or a minor fee (like $7) if you aren't a local.

Here is a link to a 7 way, that is sold through valley vet http://www.valleyvet.com/ct_detail.html?...

    Good luck!!!

  8. Unless you are just not near a phone right now there's no excuse for not being able to call them.  There are state and local laws that govern some shots, so you have to speak to the expert in your area.  If you don't have a vet then call the local shelter and ask them for a referral and for what shots.

  9. Your pup is ready for his next round of shots now. He was at 12 weeks.

Depending on what area you live in and your vets opinion will depend on what shots are given.

    I give

    distemper

    hepatitis

    parvo

    4 way leptosporosis

    para influenza

    and bordatella

    and also corona virus

But your vet may say some of these are not needed in your area.
