Thanks to the response to my last question. Have to ask similar questions so as to play safe -- since I will be travelling alone, am a female, not too good at directions, have never been to NZ and am booking from overseas, Hong Kong.

Nomad Safaris is quite safe; the owners of it recently (last Monday) won the NZ Gold Panning Champs. It's owned by a family and even the youngsters win in their sections with the gold pan. They  participate every year and usually take out a title or 2.

They operate out of Arrowtown up the Arrow River to Moonlight and Macetown, and can show you places up there where Lord of the Rings was filmed. They've been in the tour business for many years.

The other 2 companies; well I've heard of Leisure Tours but I know nothing about them, and I've not heard of RTH.

I've been in the tour business since 1979. Let me know thru' these pages where you want to go and I may be able to recommend a reputable company or 2.
