Alternation and Win Willy to lock horns in the Razorback Stakes
Pin Oak Stable owned 4-year-old colt, Alternation, after his successful debut of the new campaign in the Essex Handicap, is now ready for his second start of the 2012 season in the Grade 3 Razorback Stakes at Oaklawn Park on 10 March, 2012, at about 1 1/16
miles on dirt, against 4-year-old and above colts and geldings.
Trained by Donnie K. Von Hemel, Alternation stretched his legs according to his trainer at Oaklawn Park on 6 March, 2012, where he turned in half a mile in 49.80 seconds. The colt’s one off work was broken down, as the clockers at Oaklawn Park timed his
first quarter mile in 26.20 seconds, and his final quarter mile in 23.40 seconds.
Alternation wasn’t done there, as he galloped out five furlongs in 1 minute and 2.20 seconds. The Kentucky bred son of Distorted Humor, out of mare Alternate by Seattle Slew, the grade 2 winning colt is exiting a victory in the Essex Handicap at Oaklawn
Park, where he started his career.
In the 1 1/16 mile race on 4 February, 2012, Alternation put out his long strides to good use as he powered down the stretch like a locomotive to take the race in 1 minute and 44.95 seconds, while defeating Color Me Blue in second and Twice The Appeal in
third.
Raced as a sophomore, Alternation was successful in his first two starts at Oaklawn Park last year, downing an allowance/optional claimer at a mile and then immediately winning an allowance test, where he got stretched out in distance to 1 1/16 miles.
He has scored thrice and finished 5th once in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at the Oaklawn Park, and he will be running against the 2010 winner of the Razorback Stakes edition, Win Willy, who has been co-highweighted with Alternation at 120 pounds
for the Razorback.
The 6-year-old McLean Robertson trained horse, Win Willy, is also exiting a victory at Oaklawn Park, but it was last year in April in the Grade 2 Oaklawn Handicap at about 1 1/8 miles.
He too has an impressive record at Oaklawn Park, where he has won 4 times out of 9 starts there finishing second thrice and third once.
Win Willy turned in a work of five furlongs ahead of the race in 1 minute and 2.60 seconds , as he galloped out six furlongs in 1 minute and 15 seconds flat.
