Question:

Alternative to iTunes for playing music on my PC?

I don't have an iPod, but have been using iTunes to play music on my laptop for a couple of years. I am travelling in Spain on my motorbike, so it is my only way of playing music. My small hard drive is now full, so I deleted Quicktime, but now iTunes doesn't work so I've uninstalled it. I liked the jukebox-type layout of iTunes, with the CD cover pictures etc. and the party shuffle mode. Is there any other free software out there which I can use?

  1. I'd say Windows Media Player is most like that.  It's free with Microsoft systems and for everyone who has a legal copy of Windows.

  2. songbird -its free

  3. there are all kinds.

you can use Winamp.  it has lots of different skins and looks, so you can customize the player to exactly how you like it. But playing music is about the extent of winamps ability.

I use Microsoft Zune.  I absolutely love it.  It is free and has lots of cool features.  First and foremost, you can link it up to your zune player if you ever get one or even use it to stream music to your xbox 360 if you have one of those.  Secondly, It lets you get cool info about all of your tracks instantly.  Like what band sings it, what album it came from, when it was released, and so on.  You can build playlists, set it to random, set it to shuffle.  Also, you can use it to buy new tracks whenever you want.  It is great!!

Lastly, you can always just you Windows media player.  Nothing exceptionally special about it, but it does manage all your media, and can create playlists and such from it.

All in all, I would go with Microsoft Zune.
