Alternative to movie maker?

is there a good alternative to windows movie maker that i can download? preferably for free! my windows movie maker just wont work, and keeps crashing my whole pc :(

Well, Windows Movie Maker (which is up to version 2.1 now) is a pretty good editor to be free but here are 3 highly rated free ones to try if Movie Maker won't work:

Check out http://www.videohelp.com and search for "editing programs." A huge list will come up.

I use Sony Vegas but its quite pricey. Its really good for all the basic stuff. I also use Adobe After Effects to make visual effects. Sony Vegas can be downloaded for free but its ilegal. I can send you a good video editing program if you add me on [e-mail]
