i heard you can run a diesel car on cooking oil just by filtering it. does that work??

  1. Not really, its a little bit more complicated than that, but there is a small company in Los Angeles that I saw previewed that does the conversion for you but you have to strain the oil you use.


  2. Well it is a little more complicated than that. But it will work with the right settings and components installed. It does not run solely on cooking oil. It just converts over at a certain time when warmed up.

  3. There are two steps to the process:

    1.  Filter the cooking oil to eliminate anything which would clog the fuel system.

    2.  Warm up the engine and pre-heat the oil so it is thin enough to atomize and ignite properly.

    Prolonged low-power operation on vegetable oil is reported to cause carbon deposits in direct-injection engines, so that might be a good thing to avoid.
