Question:

Alternatives to Alitalia?

My husband and I travelled to Italy from NYC in March. I have to say this is one of the worst experiences I have had on an airplane. Delays, gate changes without notification, tiny seats, terrible meals, the headphones didn't work for the movie. The only thing I liked about the flight was the juice. Thankfully they offered lots of wine so I could take a nap after each meal or snack.

  1. the best flight i took from NYC back to Italy was BA.

    Larger seats and ok food.

KLM and Continental are not bad either

  2. www.sidestep.com to find the lowest fare, and if you use an American company I (like Continental) you will probably have a better experience, although if there is some type of strike at the Italian airport, you're going to have a problem.

  3. Most major airlines will travel to Italy from somewhere in the NYC area (it may be Newark for some).  Of course, it depends where in Italy you are flying. . .

I've used Delta in the past and it's been fairly good.  Coach doesn't offer many perks, but they get you there, feed you, and are decently nice.  Lufthansa will also make the trip, but you'll probably have to stop in Frankfurt or Munich.

    I hope this helps!  : )

  4. Try Eurofly, Continental for direct flights.
