Question:

Alternatives to live food for a pacman frog?

by  |  earlier

I've inherited a pacman frog, but I am not able to feed it live foods. Are there any other foods that he could eat? Do they make manufactured pacman frog food, or do I need to find another home who can give him what he needs? He is 3-4 years old and has eaten creek fish for his entire life.

The reason I cannot feed him live food is that I have a hard time killing any animal.

Thank you for any suggestions!

  1. You can feed him frozen mice, thats what I did with my frog, though it is good for him to have some small goldfish atleast every once in awhile

  2. Pacman frogs are attracted to prey by their movement. Large crickets would be the best for him, especially when gut-loaded and dusted with calcium powder. Frozen feeder mice are too high in protein and are very fattening.

The number one reason for buying a pacman frog is to watch them eat. I understand that you have inherited yours. Pacmans catch sight of movement and grab their prey. That is the way they do it in the wild.

You could try freeze dried foods, but they can be expensive and the odds of your pacman going for them are minimal.

If it makes you feel any better, you aren't the one killing the insect. It's necessary to feed and take care of your pet.
