What is the DUI BAC in mountain states and how many drinks would it take to reach that level compared to people living on the coast?

  1. Alcohol consumption produces the same effects at 5000 feet or at sea level.  Dehydration is a major concern with the high altitude and dry mountain air. Lack of proper hydration can lead to altitude sickness. Reduce alcohol consumption and drink at least 6-8 glasses of water a day. The low humidity may dry the membranes in the nose causing frequent nosebleeds. Staying hydrated and using a humidifier will help these symptoms.

  2. If you go from sea level to Denver, you will get drunk faster because there is less oxygen in your blood; however, if you live in Denver or have been there a couple of weeks, you will already have enough oxygen in your blood to tolerate the alcohol.
