I want to learn saxophone for high school next year. Should I learn alto or tenor sax? I honestly would prefer alto, but I heard tenor sax is in more demand, so I can get in band without all the experience other ppl have. And, I could switch to alto anytime, right?

  1. Well, I play alto and obviously thats what i prefer. Alto and tenor have different notes to read so once you've learned one it would'nt be easy going to the other. the baritone sax and the alto both have the same notes so that one would be easy to swith to and from.

  2. Go with the tenor so if that's the case. You will progress so much faster if you get to play in the band. And it's fun! Once you can play one type of sax, you can play any. So yes, you could switch to alto at any time.

  3. I played alto for 5 years there really isnt much differnece if you can play a tenor saxapphone and have the money for it then go with the tenor there is way more demand for it, and once you learn to play the tenor you can play just about any sax alto, soprano, or baritone
