Question:

Alton towers & the environment?

Does anyone think that alton towers or theme parks in general has a negative effect on the environment? Do all those rides give off anything which may be polluting? I'm doing an essay and I'm struggling to form an opinion any help will be gratefully received Thanks!! :)

  3. Well, they can be bad for the environment in lots of ways.

    Eye sores, noise pollution - when the rollercoasters are visible or can be heard a way-away. For example, 'Corkscrew' at Towers was painted green on top to blend in with the trees.

    Electricity usage will be a lot.

    Fuel for some of the attractions etc.

  4. Well something that you can mention is the fact that Alton Towers isn't allowed to build any rides above the tree line, and if you go there you'll notice that even when you're right at the entrance, it'll look like you're just surrounded by normal countryside.

    Obviously, there's the massive amount of electricity used, which is pretty much unavoidable. The fact that they use electricity means that they're not DIRECTLY giving off any sort of pollutants, but obviously making the electricity in the first place gives off plenty.

    Why don't you try emailing or ringing some parks and see if you can get hold of a bit of information about what they do to help the environment?
