I'm in the market for a headset and a friend has recommended the altronics brand.

This headset is around au $580, it seems very cheap but I have not found any negative feedback yet.

Any comments would be great

Thanks.

  1. This appears to be an Australian brand. I'm not familiar with it in the US. It also looks like a "store brand". Altronics isn't a manufacturer of aviation headsets -- they say they buy them in bulk from the factory so they must be made by someone else and rebranded as "Altronics".

It would be interesting to find out who makes them and if there's a comparable model number under the manufacturer's brand. It might be easier to compare if you knew what they really were.

It looks like they claim 29 db of noise reduction, which is OK but the best Telex model (Stratus Digital) sells for about US $775 which would be a little less than $775 AU and has 50 db of noise reduction which is the best noise reduction out there.

Don't be tricked by the $1000 Bose X, which offers noise reduction no better than an average $500 ANR headset.

  2. I am not familiar with Altronics brand but I would probably go with a pair of David Clark's those seem to work for all the pilots I have dealt with in the Air Force
