Alun-Wyn Jones likely to miss James Bevan Trophy for Wales – Rugby News
Welsh player, Alun-Wyn Jones, is set to miss the forthcoming test against Wallabies scheduled to be played in December. Both semi-finalists of Rugby World Cup 2011, are meeting on December 3, in James Bevan Trophy at the historical venue of Millennium Stadium.
Ospreys head physiotherapist, Chris Towers, told the media on November 19 that Jones has been disrupted by a foot injury he sustained during a practice session. The physician further said that lock will require surgery on his foot to recover from the injury.
Towers also stated that Jones is expected to go under the knife this weekend so he can participate in the later part of the ongoing Heineken Cup. Jones has been left out from the Ospreys squad that set off to Italy to play their second match of the event
against Benneton Treviso on November 19.
Foot injury to Jones has occurred at a very crucial time for his side as they are looking forward for second consecutive victory in the tournament. Victory over rusty Treviso could put them on top of the tables otherwise they have to strive for their survival
in the follow up matches.
The 26-year-old lock played a key role for his national Wales to reach it into semi-final, so will be missed by his team during the test against Wallabies. He has played 62 tests for his team since he made debut in 2006. He has also participated in two Rugby
World Cups for Wales.
Talking about the severity of his injury the team doctor, Towers said that, “Alun Wyn suffered a foot injury in training this week. As a result, he is going to require surgery to repair soft tissue damage, which will be carried out over the weekend. Once
he starts his post-op rehab work we will be in a better position to predict recovery timelines.”
Wales are likely to disclose their squad during week but they have to search for new faces at the important position of lock as their reserve Luke Charteris is also said to have a wrist injury. However, for Ospreys, Jones will be replaced by Ryan Jones.
