Alvaro Arbeloa accepts Sports Merit of Aragorn award
The 28th Scholastic Games of Aragorn have awarded Spanish defender Alvaro Arbeloa the medal for Sports Merit of Aragorn.
The Real Madrid right-back was a part of the squad that won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and the player was given the accolade for his involvement.
Arbeloa grew up in the area and has become a local hero in his home town after Spain won the World Cup in 2010 and the European Championship in 2008.
After receiving the award Arbeloa said, "It is an honour to be awarded this medal in my own city where I grew up. For many years I played in this school because I used to live nearby, which is why it is so special for me."
The former Liverpool defender was asked about his current team Real Madrid who won convincingly against Deportivo La Coruna over the weekend. "It is always useful to win before a break. The squad played well against Deportivo and scored.”
Real Madrid are in third place in La Liga and have taken 14 points from six games. Arbeloa believes that the win was important and will give confidence to the side after the international break.
"For the moment, the anxiety we had has disappeared with our victory last Sunday. Every single one of us played very well and we hope to continue at this same level for the rest of the season,” added Arbeloa.
The 27 year old told the audience, "We keep improving every day and I think we are just going to get better."
Arbeloa has featured for Real Madrid this season and will be hoping that Real Madrid can end the dominance that Barcelona have held over the last few seasons.
The player was delighted to receive the medal, but will now turn his attention to the matches with Spain before he returns for Real Madrid.
