Alvaro Bautista goes through successful surgery in Madrid – MotoGP news
The solo rider for Rizla Suzuki team Alvaro Bautista had a severe accident during the free practice session held on last Friday, prior the season opener race at Losail circuit, Qatar.
Bautista experienced immediate pain and discomfort after the accident, he was taken out on a stretcher from the circuit to the Clinica Mobile, after being examined and some X-rays taken he was diagnosed with displaced transverse fracture in the upper
section of the femur.
On the day of accident, due to some issues the medical staff, was not able to shift him to Madrid; regarding the present situation and loss of blood he was given an immediate surgery coordinated by Dr. Villamor with doctors at Hamad Medical Corporation
at Doha, Qatar.
Bautista’s fractured femur was given an intramedullary fixation using interlocking screws, by the doctors at Hamad Medical Corporation. When the fixation was under process the doctors sighted an internal muscle bleeding, causing his thigh to swell.
The doctors decided to make an incision from his hip down to the knee to relieve the clotting and swelling. The incision remained open for 48 hours and doctors were unsuccessful in closing it.
On Wednesday, Bautista was brought to the Hospital USP San Jose de Madrid by a special designated medical airplane. There he had a blood transfusion as he lost more than a litre of blood during the accident.
Dr. Angel Villamor, Medical Director of IQTRA and traumatology at Hospital San Jose de Madrid received Bautista in a good condition, but exhausted by pain and jet lag. He was given an immediate blood test, revealing his increased haemoglobin level.
Subsequent MRI scan and ecography confirmed his internal bleeding. Latest scans shown his femur fixation was in correct position.
According to the situation and the condition of Alvaro Bautista, Dr. Angel Villamor decided to go through an important surgery to reduce the herniated condition of the quadriceps muscles, caused after the long incision which was left open for 48 hours.
During the surgery a surgical mesh was used to close the open wound on the thigh then afterwards stitched it. Bautista was prescribed with anti-inflammatory medicines in an administered order, in a high potency, along with some antibiotics to relax
his stress.
On the following morning, he went through some further checkups and first session of physiotherapy, which were carried out with high spirits. The doctor has recommended a two to three day stay at the hospital with high medication and intensive physiotherapy
for a fast rehabilitation and avoid any complications.
Rizla Suzuki was not able to participate in the season opener round at Qatar, as the team approached John Hopkins to race for the Rizla but he could not reach Qatar in time for the race being in America.
