Alvaro Bautista heads for Zambia to take part in Riders for Health – MotoGP news
Former Rizla Suzuki rider Alvaro Bautista heads to Zambia, Africa to take part in the Riders for Health.
It is a joint venture held with the official MotoGP humanitarian organisation and Riders for Health.
The Spanish rider will be riding in charity programme that will raise funds and provide medicine to the African people living in remote areas.
Since the start of the programme, he will be working with Riders for Health until the end of November. Bautista is also a big fan of the African organisation that saves lives in the continent.
Bautista said, “I am so pleased to be taking part in this amazing adventure to Zambia with Riders for Health. I’ve been a supporter of Riders for Health for a long time and I can’t wait to see the work that they are doing. The riding will be fantastic, and
everyone who signs up and comes along to help raise money for Riders for Health will have an incredible time.”
The Spaniard will be working along the former MotoGP rider and co-founder of the organisation Randy Mamola. The group will be running a mile-long cross-country journey on motorcycles. It will be a firsthand experience of the intensive work done by Riders
for Health.
The bikes used in the trip are the same as used by the organisation’s riders that bring medical aid and medicines to the remote areas in Africa.
Bautista expressed that he feels pleasure to be the part of an important cause that will save numerous lives, as he realises the poor health facilities in the continent.
He has recently joined the San Carlo Honda Gresini team in place of late Marco Simoncelli. The Italian died in the Malaysian GP crash, involving Colin Edwards (Tech3) and Valentino Rossi (Ducati Team).
Edwards suffered from dislocated shoulder and Rossi was uninjured. The death of Simoncelli left a space for new rider and with stunning improvements that Bautista showed earned him the seat in the Italian team.
The Spaniard made his MotoGP career debut with Rizla Suzuki team and spent two seasons with the English based squad.
