Alvaro Bautista of Rizla Suzuki crashes out of 2011 US Grand Prix at Laguna Seca – MotoGP news
Rizla Suzuki team rider Alvaro Bautista strongly started the 2011 US Grand Prix but crashed during 13th lap in an effort to challenge Ducati duo, Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden.
Bautista said, “I am very, very disappointed after today and really frustrated because although we did a really good job all weekend, we didn’t get the result we deserved and I crashed. We tried many different things here this weekend and used a completely
different setting to last year and we managed to get the same good feeling as we had in Germany.”
The Spaniard applied a totally different strategy to the race at Laguna Seca which resulted in better race pace. Bautista was strong enough to jump from 12th position on the starting grid and get along the riders’ mid pack for a sixth place battle.
He further said, “This is the best I have felt on a bike in my MotoGP career so I know things are moving in the right direction. I think we made a mistake on Friday and Saturday, because we didn’t try the soft front tyre in the afternoons.”
In Bautista’s opinion, the hard tyres were not bad at all but lacked the sharpness to provide the full traction. The Spaniard was feeling not up to the mark as he could not get the feel from his GSVR especially in the corners.
His tyre choice for the race was hard compound at the front and softer one at the rear, which probably did not work out and ended his race earlier than expected.
He further explained the first lap as he was stuck in the traffic and could not overtake. However, he managed to cross a rider in beginning of the race.
As the race went on Bautista made some other moves to bypass Colin Edwards, Cal Crutchlow and Hector Barbera to chase the Ducati duo Rossi and Hayden.
Bautista claimed that he similarly entered the corner but he crashed without any clue. Indeed the crash was not a good moment but the effort put in to improve the bike was very high and positive. Let’s see how he fares in the upcoming event in Czech Republic
after the summer break.
