Uruguayan International, Alvaro Pereira, has committed his future to FC Porto and will not be moving away from the club as he has penned a new contract according to his agent, Flavio Perchman.
The defender was arguably one of the best left-backs on the continent last term and helped his side win the quadruple under the tutelage of Andre Villas-Boas.
With his tendency to go forward being well complemented by his defensive stability, Alvaro Pereira had not only started 21 matches last term but also managed to attract the attention of the some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The likes of Paris Saint-Germain were rumoured to be interested in acquiring the services of the 25-year-old but it was English giants, Chelsea that really made the headlines.
Andre Villas-Boas’ new employers were on the hunt for a world class full-back following the sale of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Yuri-Zhirkov-c37683 to Anzhi Makhachkala and the ever ageing limbs of Ashley Cole.
Russian International, Zhirkhov, failed to make an impression at Stamford Bridge following his €18 million move from CSKA Moscow and as a result the 28-year-old was offloaded by Villas-Boas when he took over at the helm.
One of the finest examples of a modern attacking full-back, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ashley-Cole-c6809 has been first choice for club and country for quite a while now. However his age is beginning to take a toll on him and it’s likely that he will be hanging up his boots in a couple
of seasons.
Having worked with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Portugal-c2984.
The Portistas were determined not to let the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/CFR-Cluj-c38778 man leave unless €30 million were deposited in their bank account. While the price-tag was not much of a match for the deep pockets of Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich, he refused to break the bank
as the player was untested in the rigours of the Premiership.
Although the London outfit failed to secure their man in the summer, it is widely expected that they will return with an improved offer in January to entice the Portuguese champions.
However all rumours have been quashed with the statement by Alvaro Pereira’s representative, Flavio Perchman.
"A lot was said in the summer and we should leave talks to Porto now," he said.
"Alvaro Pereira is motivated, he already had a good contract with Porto and now he only thinks about doing a good season,” Flavio Perchman was quoted as saying.
According to his agent, Pereira’s contract with FC Porto will now till 2016, making it highly unlikely that he will be leaving Estadio do Dragao anytime soon.
