Alvin Gentry will not take a risk on Steve Nash
Phoenix Suns head coach Alvin Gentry said that two-time Most Valuable Player Steve Nash will likely sit out in their game against the Houston Rockets on Monday 22 November at the Toyota Center
in Houston.
Nash, who is averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assist per game this season, missed their last two games because the 36-year-old guard is bothered by sore groin, and Gentry does not want to take
a risk on his starting point guard.
“I don't think I'm going to play him this whole trip,” Gentry said. “It's not quite right and until we get back and we can get an adjustment and stuff, I don't feel like it's worth the risk.”
Gentry also clarified that there is nothing serious in Nash’s injury, although they are being cautious to avoid aggravating the injury that could sideline the two-time MVP for a longer stretch
this season.
“He would play if I would let him. But I'm not going to,” Gentry said. “I just don't think it make sense for us this early in the season. Then it nags and goes on where we cannot get it right
until after Christmas and the All-Star break or something like that. I just don't see any use in doing that.”
Without Nash, the Suns have struggled to find their offensive rhythm, losing in their last two games by an average of 17 points. Phoenix absorbed a 105-89 loss against the Orlando Magic on
Thursday 18 November, which was followed by a 123-105 defeat against the Charlotte Bobcats on 20 November.
Without Nash, Goran Dragic, who scored 17 points and dished out 10 assists against the Bobcats, will likely start again for the Phoenix Suns on Monday 22 November against the Rockets. Hedo
Turkoglu will also play some minutes orchestrating their offence and try to help the Suns snap their three-game losing skid.
